Aranmula Vallasadya : The ritual feast with 63 dishes

Aranmula Vallasadya : What comes to your mind when you hear the word feast? Have you ever imagined a feast packed with 63 dishes? Yes, the annual ritualistic temple feast called the Aranmula Vallasadya is conducted every year at the Aranmula Sree Partha Sarathy Temple, in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala.

In this annual ritual feast of vallasadya at Sree Parthasarathy temple at Aaranmula in Pathanamthitta, the items served are truly mouth-watering and the ritual is a truly jaw dropping one. It is an important ritualistic grand offering of a feast by the devotees to the presiding deity of Lord Krishna from the Kerala Month of Karkidakam 15 to the Kanni 15.

Vallasadya is considered to be the largest unique feast mass in the world. As part of the feast a total of 63 specially prepared vegetarian dishes are served on plantain leaf for the feast. Huge number of devotees, visitors, and tourists, participate in this unique feast event every year.

Salt, five types of vegetable chips, elephant yam, varieties of colocasia, types of jackfruit, molasses banana chips, pappads, sesame sweets, ‘parippu vada’ made of daal, ‘unniyappam’ made out of rice powder and sweet mix, whole plantains, malar(roasted paddy), ‘kalkandam’ (rock candy made from palm juice), varieties of sweets, various mixed vegetable dishes like spinach delecasies, ‘aviyal’ a type of mixed vegetable  dish prepared in coconut oil and scrambled coconut, ‘Kichadi ‘and varieties of warm desserts like payasam are the main items served in the feast.
